Drying out Bavaria 38 Ocean
« on: May 05 2014, 11:36 »
Hi all,
My Bav Ocean has fin keel 1.95m Draft.

Any advice for drying out against a wall.

I'm aware of encouraging leaning into the wall using the mail halyard.

Any reason not to?

Just the usual precautions, I would have thought. Lean just a few degrees, put fenders and fender board against the wall. Hold the boat into the wall with mooring warps. Depending on the height of the wall, it might be helpful to put a line around the mast. Then run long lines fore-and-aft; that is a good use for halyards to make sure you don't tilt bow-down or stern-down.

With my ocean 40 the c of g is very far forward and in addition to the usual slight lean in to the wall I empty the forward water tank and fill both the aft tank and the fuel tank , then after I have positioned the boat against the wall and before we settle I lower anchor and all chain to the ground . This way I move the c of g aft of the front edge of the keel. It sounds a bit dramatic but its all very easy. Geoff

Thanks Gents.
I particularly like the method of moving the c of g astern. When Charisma was lifted out this year the yard said that she was slightly nose heavy, so that's really helpful.

Once I cross the Rubicon and do so I'll put up a further post, probably listing my errors

Thanks again

Adam :)

Remember to check the ground where you plan to dry out.
