outdrive spray paint

just taken all the paint back to the alloy on saildrive it was flaky and manky,  whats the best alloy paint i assume it has to be some sort of etch primer not sure if the volvo primer is for bare alloy anyone done this

I'm sure there are several acceptable methods. I used Interlux Brushease 433 solvent, followed by 4 coats of Primocon which forms a rubbery barrier coat. Over that, I put an econea based anti fouling paint. I used Pettit Ultima Eco, but there are many brands of this nonmetallic paint available. Make sure you pay attention to the application directions. I am happy with the results after 3 seasons. Good luck!
