« on: May 28 2013, 09:42 »
Hi
I am a new member intending to by a 38 Ocean but concerned about teak decks that have become "unglued". Anybody had similar experience or can offer information
Thanks Mike

They are ply panels with teak veneer about 3mm thick on top. Good thing is that they are only glued and no fastenings through the deck. Not so good is that they can wear thin and if they come unstuck can be difficult to re attach to the deck. Caulking coming out of the seams is usually not difficult to fix except if the teak is badly worn and the seam ends up very shallow.

here is a post on the same topic that may provide some additional info:

The decks can and do lift.  It requires a little work to keep them water tight.  The good thing is they are glued down and not screwed down and hence no water intrusion issues into the actual deck core.
