TACHOMETER REPAIR Volvo Penta D130 Cruiser 33 2014
« on: February 10 2019, 15:42 »
Hi All

The hour meter in my tachometer has become quite difficult to read . Looking direct onto display nothing looking in at an angle the display is visible . It would appear mine can be dimmed using the dim /alarm off button. I took it out and placed in the airing cupboard  for 3 months with no improvement.
Has anyone had these repaired if so where . Or repaired themeselves.  I assume the LCD display is failing but not sure where possible to buy.
 Any suggestions much appreciated.

Hi
Not to steal this thread, but also about tachometer problem in a VP MD2030 : The rpm's is out sync with actual rpm's - showing way too few - confirmed by exterior measurement. How are the rpm's meassured by the VP gauge and can it be adjusted ?

My hour-meter also turns on and off randomly. I simply decided to install a mechanical unit inside as this information is not something you really need at the helm. It gets voltage directly from the alternator so counts only when the engine is running.

And for jet42's question - to the best of my knowledge the rpm signal comes from the alternator (there is a terminal called TACH).  Do not know exactly the internal circuitry of the RPM meter, but it could be a problem with the TACH signal coming to it - I  assume the unit "counts" cycles so a lower voltage will cause the unit to miss cycles.
A less likely reason - not sure how much off your display is but could it be that the belt is slipping?

Hi,
I had to re calibrate my Tacho earlier this week and here are the instructions to do it. Apologies if this has been uploaded before but I couldnt find it.
Thanks
