The in-mast furling has jammed the main in the mast good and tight. Perfect time for a brokerage photoshoot!

Yes, the leech folds over onto itself and then gets furled up like that, making the whole thing too thick to come back out of the slot without some major wrestling. More likely to happen with old stretched out mains (that's how I know  )

Does that mean that you also cannot furl the sail in bad and worsening weather other than with a good sharp knife ?

Mine furled in ok with a bit of brute force on the winch. Untangling it back in port took about two hours of fiddling around (no mast climbing or knives). Jams only really happen with very badly stretched sails or gross ignorance of the instructions. The first time jamming tends to be very educational

I can't believe the ruck would been caused by stretched sails so I would hazard a guess that, if this boat is being sold after barely a year from new, there may be other not-so-obvious problems that have been caused by the 'gross ignorance' mentioned by Yngmar. I've not used in-mast furling but it can't be that flimsy or difficult to operate, judging by the number of manufacturers that fit it.

I know this boat and the owner. Reasons for sale are personal but I can testify not to do with any issues on the boat. She has been in charter with a good reputable BVI company. One which I would recommend if that is of interest to how you might like to own the boat. Not for everyone I agree but no reason to embark on a Charter Bashing thread. I suspect many of us have been bareboat charterers for our own reasons...

I agree the furling main looks like it has jammed in the photos and I would suggest to the owner that she gets the broker to take some new shots with the main in fully operational order.......Since the boat is currently in an active charter fleet I very much doubt it is anything but a minor issue that occurred on the day of the shoot, if indeed it is even an issue....
