Garmin 128gps to raymarine ST60 SEATALK SYSTEM
« on: April 30 2015, 19:28 »
My 2002 BAV36 has the above instruments but they are not connected togther.
I believe some Bavaria's with the same instruments have them linked up.

If linked the TRUE setting on ST60 wind instruments would be correct most of the time.
The alternative paddle log spinner is often clogged and needs cleaning.

Any pointers as to connecting them up together?

If you have an ST60 Multi instrument, this has an NMEA input - just wire it to the output of the Garmin GPS.  If you don't have a Multi, you'll need to get an NMEA to SeaTalk converter in order to put the data into the Raymarine instruments.

Connection details, wiring colours, etc, are in the manuals which are free to download from the Raymarine and Garmin websites.

Thanks tiger79 you've given me something to work on.

Unfortunately my ST60 is not a multi so I guess I will have to buy the adapter.

Be aware that there are NMEA0183 and NMEA2000 protocols, and the two most likely are not compatible, and additionally Garmin may have their own proprietary communication protocol. Your Garmin will most likely have the ability to connect to one of the NMEA protocols, but may not have the ability to connect to the other without conversion electronics. Depending on what you need, Actisense make conversion devices, but don't normally sell direct to the public. Instead you have to buy through one of their associated retailers. Additionally if you need, or chose to go down the route of using an Actisense device, you have to chose carefully which of the devices you require for that conversion. Even then you may have to download some extra information to update the firmware within that device to configure it for your specific requirement. Actisense are helpful if somewhat confusing at times, such that you may find it a bit of a minefield to get exactly what you need, so good luck in that respect as these things are not always as straightforward as you may like.

Both the Garmin 128 and the Raymarine ST60 pre-date the NMEA2000, so there's no problem.
