Bavaria 30c 2007 stray cable found
« on: March 29 2015, 20:09 »
Hi Everyone,
Can anyone help me find out where this stray cable should go near the alternator please?
I've just replaced the sail drive gaiter after 8 years and found it loose[/img][/img]. It looks like it goes somewhere because the female spade terminal is a little corroded where it would push on.
BTW if anyone wants any layman's advice on the gaiter replacement, let me know.
Trevor.

Alternator tach terminal? Does your tachometer work?

This is most likely a 'spare' - I have one the same that has never been connected.

After I'd had the sail drive gaiter changed on my B36 in 2011 by which time it was nine years old and still looked like new I found, as Nigel suggested, that the Tachometer was not working. Fortunately before getting the yard in to do the job, I'd made a careful note of where each of the alternator wires were connected. So when I noticed that the tachometer was not working I could see that they had replaced the alternator connections, but not to the correct terminals. I called the yard back so that they could see the problem and got them to do the job properly just incase having made the wrong connections had caused any electrical damage. Luckily for all it had not, but it shows how making a few notes before before the job was done paid dividends. Now whenever anything electrical has to be disconnected, it gets photographed and recorded before the job starts.

Thank you all. The tachometer (and as far as I know, everything) is still working so I tend to agree with dawntreader. We didn't actually intentionally disconnect any cables but Salty is absolutely correct - make notes, not mistakes.
Thanks again,
Trevor.

same here, and it's not been connected to anything for a very long time, judging by the accreted dust in there. Tacho works fine.

+1. The same yellow wire not connected on my 30C.  It has some black
PVC tape round it for good measure.
