Wanted. Helm seat
« on: October 31 2014, 13:09 »
My helm seat (the bit that folds down to allow transom access) for a Bavaria 42, year 2000, is broken. Does anyone have one or know of where I can get one? Are there wreckers for old boats (like old cars)?

I am in Sardinia so getting here is also an issue.

Thanks

John

Hi John, not got one but, you can get a nice one made from local hardwood slatted design, they look good and float! Just find local joinery workshop.

good luck , Ray

John,

I know I'm a bit late but I had a helm seat made by the factory a couple of years ago for my 1997 38.
Contact them with the boat details (HIN no. date of manufacture etc.) and see what they come up with.
Not sure of the cost as the sell had to pay as he lost the seat on the day O bought the boat.

regards
Neil

On the subject of Helm seats - this seems to be a common problem on Bavarias. It's rare to see one that still has the seat. My newly bought 42 (2005) was missing a seat and I recently contacted a dealer who quoted £395 + VAT + delivery. Yep almost £500.

I'll get in touch with a local carpenter.

btw any ingenious solutions for a more comfortable back rest for the helmsman (starboard side)?

Cheers
