Jabsco Shower Waste Pump - Routine Maintenance

When I come to routinely clean the filter in the Jabsco shower waste pump on my B37 (2006) it would seem someone with giant hands has tightened the cover up. I have previously used silicon grease and only finger tightened it - still needs a filter strap to remove it later on! Made worse by its location - under the sink and can only get one hand on it 

Any tips to prevent this?

Filter? I didn't even know there was a filter...

Where is this and how do you get at it?

Usually under the sink somewhere, black base with clear plastic slightly nobly top that you can hand undo. Pic attached, filter is at the bottom in the middle. It has a mostly white label on the top.

if it is an Bav 37 with only on Cabin in the stern and the Toilet on Starboard side in the middle of the ship, it would be very nice to get some pictures from it. I would like to install a shower and would like to know how.

The filter gets blocked with hair, fluff, dirt etc depending on frequency of use. Guaranteed to need cleaning sometime, worth doing it regularly otherwise when it does block you might find someone running your battery flat whilst trying to pump the shower water out!

Does your filter cap come undone easily each time? I have on occasion had to remove the unit from the wall to undo the cap.

So far relatively easily, I haven't applied any lubricant to it either.

Hi, have just checked my handover video and my Bav 37 (2007) has two filters: one for water in and the other for shower waste out. To remove either cap, you need to turn anti-clockwise to take off. Yacht broker recommended removing and cleaning the filter at least once a season and maybe more often depending on usage (for shower) and the type of water you are sailing in eg weedy.  Apologies if this is known to everyone.

Most confusing... the picture shown is of the fresh water pump and control lever for switching between fwd and aft tanks.... nothing to do with any waste pump. My waste pump is easily accessed under the seat in the shower stall. Bavaria 40 2001.

Anthony, the picture shows the jabsco pump for the shower waste in the bottom centre - the round object under the red switch lever.

OK, this unit was supplied new with the boat and I have had the problem from the first attempt to remove for cleaning. The unit is a Jabsco Pumpgard and looking at new units online it should have an o-ring sitting on the threaded flange - mine does not! I expect that is the reason for the cap sticking 

Problem solved.
