Bavaria 36 - External pear anode
« on: March 12 2024, 18:31 »
Hello All,

I own a Bavaria 36 that has a pear shaped anode fitted to the port hand side just forward of the saildrive.  Despite the anode having been fitted since I have owned the boat (3 years) there is very little wear on it and having read various posts on here, I suspect it has been retro fitted as additional protection to the saildrive anode (that has eroded).

Can anyone confirm that a 1998 Bavaria 36 didn't have a factory fitted hull mounted pear shaped anode and that the only galvanic protection required is for the saildrive that has its own anode?

Thanks in advance.

Paul

There's no need for another anode, the saildrive has its own.

I have a 1999 Bav 36 and the sail drive anode is the only one.

Check what it is wired to before removing it. It is obviously not doing anything as there is noting for it to protect. Only outside possibility is that it has been added to use as a ground for the 240v system as used on post 2013 boats to comply with new regs. however the regs are not retrospective.
