D2-55 (2002) intermittend RPM increase in gear
« on: October 17 2023, 17:51 »
HI all,

Another problem with my bellowed D2-55 after full refurbishment :( Engine has 6.5 hours after being fully refurbished, fuel tank cleaned ...

Current problem is that once you apply gear, propeller starts spinning (same problem backward or forward), but the RPM's do not go up almost until full forward (or backwards in reverse) movement of lever is made. I checked for possible mechanical problems in lever fork (volvo penta....), but it all seems to be working fine mechanically.
I even tried to disconnect RPM lever from the engine, engage the clutch to forward and try to manually apply power. Sometimes lever works, sometimes NOT. What would be the best guess nature of the problem?
RPM lever has no problem if engine is not in gear (RPM increase with the push of the lever).

Bigger problem is I am on remote island where there is no Volvo specialist ...

If there is anyone on Madeira and wanna come join me or/and see the situation, please let me know :)

Thanks for your inputs.

Does it work when you push the lever on the injector pump, down in the engine bay, by hand? It sounds like it's just a problem with the Morse control installation, probably not well attached.

Hi,

In the engine bay sometimes it works sometimes not - it start working every time I push it to the max rpm position and then going slightly back

I had in intermittent problem of inconstant rpm, as the fuel tank level became lower and there was no head of fuel to the fuel pump, , tank about 35% full.  Fitting a new volvo engine fuel filter did not help. But fitting an aftermarket engine fuel filter, did.  Problem solved.  But of course your problem may not be fuel related.

Thanks for your inputs. Hope this is not fuel related issue since tank is 95% full (full tank minus 6 hours on the engine :) ) ... also fuel tank was emptied and cleaned just prior passage ...

Thanks, Ted

Take a peek in the filters if you haven't fitted transparent ones. Fuel issue would be the simplest explanation.

Don’t forget about the fuel cut off valve if you have one. I replaced mine last year as they can get clogged up before you get to the primary filter! If there is a partial blockage at that stop valve that might explain fuel problems.
