Bavaria 33 bimini extension
« on: June 22 2023, 08:09 »
Dear Members,
A friend and I are both proud owners of Bav 33 cruisers, both second hand and built in the mid noughties. They both came with Bimini extensions that attach by zips to the Bimini. However the other end has a  hard plastic tube and 4 ties at regular intervals. The tube end comes half way down the spray hood with no obvious  way of attaching. Currently using the hand rails on the coach roof but it doesn’t look right. Any ideas?
Best

Welcome

Probably not a factory fit but added afterwards. Difficult to advise without seeing photos of what you have.

Thank you Symphony2.
Attaching a pic, having put it on this morning. There were 6 ties, not 4, though as I only use 4 that was what I had remembered. See what you think and thanks again.

Could the whole thing be on backwards? Then the extension tube would fit between the backstays :)

That would be a touch embarrassing, but no. There are no spare zips at the back and the ones at the front fit perfectly. There is a slot for the boom also. The Bimini is made by NV so probably not original unless they supply Bavaria. A coincidence that two boats a year apart have the same none standard gear, but stranger things….

Did you try asking NV? They seem to be still around, although the Bimini for your model on their website doesn't show the extension.

Thank you Yngmar, but I think I have figured it out (see attached) The long lines attach to the spreaders and a strap reaches the boom. This makes sense, particularly if at anchor in somewhere hot and sticky, as you can drop the spray hood and get a nice breeze without melting in the sun! Thank you, and Symphony for your replies though. Good people on this forum!

Hi,
I guess it should probably be on top of the boom. The boom-topping-lift line then to go through the opening in the canvas.
