Help identify saildrive anode area part 120 SE
« on: June 01 2023, 15:53 »
I hauled our 35E yesterday and found the anode looks to have gone missing.  No damage to any metal as we are usually inside the locks in fresh water.  What is the aluminum ring sitting loosely on the shaft?  Does that need to be there?  It's not shown in the drawing on the anode replacement instructions from Volvo.  See attached pictures.  Thanks.

Not familiar! Could be the remains of a rope cutter (one of the less well reviewing ones with plain cutting surfaces rather than scissor action). Seems like it has worked its way halfway through the anode bolts, so it's probably stainless steel, not aluminium. Just get rid of it :)

I think that it IS needed if a rope cutter is NOT fitted. I think that it is just called a spacer. It is fitted between the prop and the anode. Geoff

It is what is termed by Volvo as a rope or line cutter supposedly to stop fishing line getting into the seals. not very effective but if it is not damaged put it back as it is better than nothing. As said if you fit a Stripper rope cutter it is discarded anyway.
