Seized rudder 2
« on: May 14 2023, 18:38 »
I have a Bavaria 350 and the rudder has been a bit stiff so while it was out I thought I would drop the rudder a bit and clean up the shaft. I have got it down about 6 inches and it is now stuck very solid. The top bearing is free and in good order. The bottom bearing is seized in the housing and won't move. I presume that the housing has corroded and is compressing the doughnut onto the shaft. Any Ideas apart from the big hammer?

You can break and chisel off part of the lower bearing housing. Just make a groove and then bring out the big hammer. I've seen it done on other Jefa bearings and after using the big "persuader" it comes off.
