Cleaning out contaminated sail-drive oil
« on: May 24 2020, 17:52 »
Pea-Jay is on the hard. Can anyone advise how best to clean out the remaining (sea water) contaminated oil in the sail drive and gearbox before final re-assembly of the propeller shaft and closing up the lower end? I read somewhere filling up the gear box with diesel. I’m not too sure though.

Draining the leg oil also drains the gearbox. For the little it costs you could refill it with clean oil and then drain it again, discarding that oil and refill with new. Would not put diesel in it.
