Tino G - Sailing

Danish sailor on a Bavaria 32, lots of technical videos.

It takes some patience to watch Tino G, English not being his first language, but I have learned so much from his technical videos that I've been able to apply to my 2007 30 Cruiser which is almost identical to his yacht. I'm very appreciative of the time he puts in, and his skills at holding the camera while tightening or loosening screws!

Not a Bavaria, but a mind-numbing series about an ever-optimistic young couple who bought a 70' wooden schooner that was sinking when they bought it: Sailing Yaba. Whenever I have a challenging fix on my Bav I think about what it could be like...

Girasole Sailing

German couple crossing the Atlantic in a B44.  German language.

Impressive repair of delamination of hull/grid at anchor in Cape Verdes en route.

That was rather interesting! I watched the two episodes of the keel repair and also the one before where they noticed something was wrong and diverted to the Cape Verdes.

They've done the entire job one stringer at a time at anchor. Shows what is possible with a bit of ingenuity and willpower. Excellent stuff.

The other interesting bit was that the damage was not from grounding, but from a previous bodged keel removal where the yard had apparently understimated the strength of the methacrylate glue and ripped the keel off the hull during removal with such force that the tabbing delaminated. All because they had a small leak from the forward most keelbolt  ::)

P.S.: They're Italians from South Tyrol (Alto Adige) - an odd little region in northernmost Italy where people speak German with an Austrian dialect, but aren't Germans at all  :))

Indeed, very interesting videos! And looks like they did a great job, especially taking into account it's at anchor.

One can only guess the "quality" of the earlier repair, which sounds like it did much more harm than good. Maybe the yard just took a big enough hammer and hit the keel bolts until the keel fell of... Would explain the damages and also the bolts (above nuts) seem much shorter than what I have seen with that era Bavarias - perhaps the yard cut the tops off. The torque cannot also have be even remotely correct as they managed get the nuts off with that spanner.

One thing that comes into my mind from this video is the importance of having a sufficient capacity inverter on board when doing extended cruising, especially out of the beaten path. This allows one to use all the necessary power tools, such as angle grinder in this case, even at anchor. Need to save some money for a Victron Multiplus... :)

How is your inner forestay setup?

Hi Happy afloat , pleased you liked the movies.
The inner forestay is not exactly an inner forestay, but something made up from accumulated boat bits in my garage.  This is an old strong weather Kevlar North jib, 29 ft luff, which my sailmaker converted from Hanks to luff furling, laced down by Dyneema chordage to an old luff furler from a larger boat, fastened to a short 8mm Dyneema bridle fastened to the aft side anchor locker bulkhead, (upper, just below the deck thru the gap of the hatch recess) on a hard eye thimble. A luff furling strong weather jib for closehauled. We furl the Genoa & set this.
