Rutgerson Traveller, rope replacement
« on: November 03 2019, 00:38 »
Hi all.

I think it's time to replace the lines that are in the Traveler (Bav36), any clue?, do you know how long should the ropes have to be? any experience doing this?

As always, many thanks for your suggestions.

I think the ropes on mine are each 5m long and 8mm diameter but the determining length is you should be able to take them to a winch if needed and mine are a bit short when the car is at to opposite end, so you might want to add a metre or two.  Jobs easy, remove the bolt which holds the end in place, remove rope and replace.  The original ropes had spliced loops but I just use a bowline to fix them in place.

I had originally 10mm rope in my B40, but replaced with 8mm as others have already suggested. Makes the car movement much smoother. Used Gleistein Tasmania, which is quite flexible rope.

I bought 6m on each side to have longer tails and opportunity to fail and redo a splice If needed.
