Water pooling on deck at stern

When it rains or we wash our boat, the water doesn't drain well of the back as it should. It typically pools along the toerails on starboard and port sides on either side of the cockpit until it evaporates, which is annoying and leaves behind dirt and grit. Does anyone else have this issue? Found a solution? We're a 2002 Bav 40.

Someone suggested to us that we drill some holes in the toerail at the back to encourage drainage, but we're hesitant to do that....

Have you added any significant weight in the front of the boat, such as more anchor chain? This might alter the balance of the boat.

You are right. We did add more anchor chain! I wonder what can be done to add more weight to the back of the boat to balance it.... it is quite annoying that it doesn't drain....

My 49 has done that since new.  It's most annoying.

It happens for two reasons. First because the sheer is almost flat in that area - made worse of additional weight is added forward. This means the water flow is always slow going aft. Second the stern narrows so the drain through the fairlead or off the back is further inboard towards the centre of the boat so a small amount of slow moving water gets trapped. Ideally there should be a drain further forward but the type of toerail used does not lend itself to this.

Also had this problem on a 2004 B32, so much so that the runoff from the deck would pool around the fuel filler which is flush mounted to the deck. Had no end of problems with water ingress into fuel tank. The filler cap touched the deck and I think this then caused water to be sucked into the filler pipe through the vents in the cap. During the summer had to dump about 20 litres of diesel which had 2-3 litres of water.
Have since found a mod to the Perko filler cap which elevates the cap by about 8mm.
Also drilled a couple of small holes in the toerail and this has improved the water runoff flow so that it doesn’t pond around the fuel cap. Not had any further problems with water in the fuel.

The holes in the toerail were easy to drill and unless you are lower than the toerail they are difficult to see.

Same on B41 2004, I have drilled several 3/8 in. holes into the toenail which limits the pool height and size. Actually this is just one of several design problems related to water management. Other annoying thing is when it rains hard some water runs into the cockpit by the companion way (we live aboard 6m a year in Caribbean and eat only in cockpit which is protected by integrated dodger/bimini). Also inside the lack of limber holes (with exception of keel bolt area) can potentially cause many pools.
Definitely not a balance issue unless someone figured to sail with no chain, no water in forward tank and nothing in just about only storage space (3 cabin config) under the fore bunk.
