Pad Eye Fastening
« on: June 29 2017, 15:33 »
Re the foredeck of my B42 year 2000.

I want to fasten a pad eye to the little square mounting point in front of the rope locker hatch.

Can I drill and tap into an aluminium plate embedded in the GRP? Or do I have to drill through and put a plate under?

Thanks

Pat

Hi Patprice
I added a padeye to my B37,  for a spinnaker pole downhaul to attach to.
It was very easy to drill & tap through the deck into the aluminium plate.
Remember to countersink around the top of the hole for a good seal to between sealant & bolt

Thanks Konan
I had not thought of countersinking. Is that to stop water getting below into the fastening threads?
