Oil Pressure Sender Penta D2/55
« on: May 21 2017, 08:10 »
Does anyone have a source of this small pressure switch component other than the official Volvo Penta part (  3587359 ) which is variously £80 to £110 plus shipping. Really this an outrageous price for what is a common automotive component.

Does Penta really mean FIVE times the normal market price!

Any info gratefuly received.

Surely any sender sold in a car accessory shop will do, provided the thread is the same of course. Volvo spare parts prices are a disgrace .

The oil pressure sender unit is made by VDO and is identical to the automotive unit. VDO is not as expensive as the VP one but not cheap either. Once you need to replace it you might consider a dual unit that supports the alarm function as well and will allow you to hook up a 50mm electrical oil pressure gauge to it. VDO make many different styles and if I'm not mistaken the gauge is normally plastic construction. If you opt for this just make sure the sender is calibrated 0 - 5bar and of course the gauge should be 0 - 5bar or if you prefer 0-70psi. This way the needle will sit some where in the middle of the dial. Hope this is helpful. Raph.

Clearly the way to go pea-jay. Thanks. I will measure the tapping for the current pressure sensor which looks like 1/8 bsp and then get a matching gauge and sender with low pressure alarm as part of the replacement. Got be lower cost than the alternative Penta tax and delivering more useful information into the bargain. A true balance between oil pressure and blood pressure.
