While my mast is down i would like to take the advantage and replace all mast lamps, does anyone recommend Leds? and which ones. while removing the Hella lamps i did not take notice but now i see that even though they look the same they are different part numbers. how do they differ? these are the ones on top of the mast.the one in the middle of the mast uses a festoon lamp and a dychloric flood light.
your inputs will be greatly appreciated.
also someone mentioned cheap led cabin lamps(switched) is there a link available?

just found out the be1210 is for the anchor and the be1225 is for the tricolour.

Last year I changed all (mast/nav) lamps to LED bought from here.

These are the ones I used in the cabin, changed all 10, no failures yet and its almost been a year. Nice warm light as well.
I'm not sure if you have the same light base as me, they only just fit, any bigger and they wouldn't. At £8.59, not too bad of a gamble I suppose!

The deck flood bulb for the Hella combination steaming/deck light is a H3 bulb. You can find plenty of dirt cheap super bright LED replacements on eBay, as it's a very common car headlight bulb. Very pleased with mine.

I had A TRICOLOUR led light and anchor light fitted whenI bought the boat new . Do not know the make but they were supplied by Clipper.
I have a Wurth 301 control electronic panel standard fit on the 33.
Because the led 's are very low power the panel started flashing when switcheded on indicating a fault . Clipper had to transfer the Tricolour to one of the spare switches. In my instance F1

Yngmar is correct. Make sure you select "Warm White" not "Cool White" replacements for the NAV lamps.

thank you. i did find out from the original hella lamps that they are different color. cool white for anchor and standing, and warm white for tricolor.

I might be losing the point here but Why would a warm white LED be better than a "cold" white LED when used as Nav lights?

Surely the coloured glass determines the colour.

I understand that some sailors have a problem with Cold White LEDs in their anchor light because of a possible confusion with stars, is this the reason you guys are suggesting the yellow looking warm lights?

I replaced all my original bulbs with LED in 2011 and have not had a problem since, except that I noticed the bow light ( red and green side-lights) became dull. When I checked out the LED light, I found that some of the rows of LED lights were not working. I suspect that I had a few waves over the bow and salt water corroded out some of the wiring in the LED light.

I'm not sure if the whole thing is poppy cock!
I would like to see the difference between the two myself, just to see how bad it is.
But like a good little sheeple, I jump through the hoops I have too. It would be a shame to not have an insurance claim paid for the sake of lamp colour!

According to the link, "White LEDs do not emit the wavelengths required to correctly illuminate the red and green sectors, and, as a result the colours observed are totally outside of the IMO specifications."
Which I suppose makes the red look orange and green looks blue maybe?
Like I said, I would like to see it over various distances just to see what its like.

I tend to agree, there is no practical difference between warm or cold led lights in Nav lights. The biggest determinant of colour is how crazed your plastic light covers are and how much bird shit has landed on them.

My LED lights were much brighter than the original lights, and apart from the bow light issue mentioned above, never had a problem. My boat gets a lot of use, often at night.

It does look nice in the saloon area to have the Warm Lights and white LED lights in the heads. The Saloon looks warm and inviting, whereas the heads look clean and sterile. These lights don't have coloured glass covers though.

I mentioned the replacement LED lights for the interior. In my opinion a great improvement on the factory units and much lower consumption.

Put anchor led with sensor. You don't have to worry about turning it on an off if you are in the middle of tasty dinner with friends on shore or taking long morning sleep. I have it now for 4 years and it works great.
