Portlight seals 2006 Bavaria 50 Cruise
« on: February 02 2017, 00:08 »
Hi all
I am having extreme trouble locating a set of port light seals for my boat, yes i have tried all what seems every seal supplier in the yachting game. They are Lewmar Bavaria Double Barrel port lights and what ive been told is that Lewmar upgraded the seal in said port lights to the NEW version #3 but guess what they dont fit my Lewmar port lights. The guys at the boat yard have spent hours removing seal type #2 and trying to fit the new version #3 and is costing a fortune for them to tell me when fitted the acrylic lenses cant shut! Also the comment was made that it would be cheaper to buy new port lights than its been trying to fit new seals, well that i cant believe as ive been quoted $400 plus per port light plus fitting and i would need to replace 8 of them, like WTF, is this what Lewmar do to sell new portlights?! Also it seem Bavaria dont have the original #2 seals to replace them. The boat is totally original in every way, yet im being told that there is only one seal type now which is type #3 and there are hundreds of Bavarias out there with these same type port lights so im guessing there is hundred of port lights that these seals wont fit!? Frustrated!! Any input would be more than welcome :-[ :-[ ::) >:(

Isn't the seal kit part number 361601999, as shown here?

Sorry Tiger these are the New New version #3 that will not fit, although Lewmar say will and are the only seals available for Lewmar portlights. Theres a lot of Bavs out there that wont be able to fix leaky portlights because the only seals available will not fit or allow the lens to close.
Cheers Steve

I've been nurturing mine along by feeding the original seals with hand cream and tapping the tangs up so they shut tighter.

When they finally give up the ghost, I'm going to get some fixed portlights made to replace them as the Lewmar prices are ludicrous.

There's no help or support or advise to alternative from Lewmar. I do hear you with the cost of replacing them with new lewmar port lights as not an option, wouldn't do it either as if they can't support their product now so why would you risk it a second time like 😳😳😳😳😤😡

I would like to hear if anybody has any ideas on these Bavaria Barrel port light seals apart from taping them up :)

On my boat, a B36/2002, I don't have the barrel shaped port lights, but for the last five years I've used a rhin smear of "Vaselene" or petroleum jelly on the seal for each port light. Up to now it has been great success from a single annual smear of the stuff, and I've not had any leaks from them since then, though there were frequent leaks prior to its use. Just don't wipe away the grease every time you clean the windows.
