Replacement cushions Bavaria 38 Holiday
« on: October 24 2016, 19:51 »
Hi, has anybody had new cushions made for a Bavaria 38 Holiday.

Ours is a 2000 model, photo of seating area uploaded.

We have brought the cushion covers home with a view to getting new covers made, but now thinking it might be easier to get new full cushions made?

I think you will find it more economical to just get them recovered. The foam cushions are the most costly part... If they are still in decent shape and comfortable, then I'd say just get them recovered. We're thinking of doing the same!

Best to get them recovered by a professional upholsterer as shaped cushions like that are not easy to do. Hopefully you will be able to re-use the foam. There is a wide variety of materials, but the major part of the cost is in labour. Not a cheap job!

It seems as if the foam of your cushions has seen better days. I have no experience with replacing the cushions but would be very interested as regards pricing as we will have to replace ours in two years time at the latest. There are some areas that get softer and softer ... I would be happy with the cushions originally supplied by Bavaria but on their spare part website I have not found any replacement.

Maybe there is someone here that knows whether Bavaria or a supplier produced the cushions. In the latter case it may be worth trying to get a quote from this supplier as they should have everything they need to produce a replacement.

Have been in contact with Bavaria in Germany, and they have said that the company that supplied the cushions in year 2000 is no longer in business!

We had ours recovered by the yard / broker who sold the boat to us. Bavaria 40 AC/3 2001 model has almost identical layout to your 38.

Quality fabric (as well as foam) has pretty much the same cost regardless of source, but you can sometimes save a significant share of money by finding lower-cost labour. Our luck was that the labour cost in Estonia was only a fraction of what it would have been on the norther shore of the Gulf of Finland.

There are marine upholsterers in most places where there are boats, although it is not a particularly specialist job and any decent upholsterer can make up cushions. However, it is not cheap, particularly if you have shaped and profiled cushions as it the boat shown. There is a lot of labour involved in that type of work. Expect to pay £3000 or more for the saloon cushions including new foam.

Have had new covers made by furnicture upholstery business, having brought covers back from France. These were taken apart and used as a template for each cushion.

Total cost including new foam was £1800.

Just need to ship them down to South of France now, as wont fit in my suitcase for flight down lol.
