I want to announce that the alternator has been redone.  Thank you all for your help and advice.  After many calls, the electrical techician came and solved the problem in 10 minutes.  The only thing is that I didn't connect the sensing wire, he calls it excitation, he disconnected a wire from the alternator and connected the sensing wire to it.  And that was all.

I am considering installing a getset as well.  I am looking at putting it into the port side lazarette in the cockpit.  Looks like plenty of room in there.  5KW should fit in there easily, with plenty of room to service it as well.

I think the engine room would be a bit small for a genset.  If someone has done it, I'd love to see pictures.

Hello,

I removed the starboard cabin portlight on my Bav 47 because the polycarbonate sheet was loose in its frame (eg = leaking). That is an easy fix. However I'm curious over what I discovered on the stainless sealing surface of the window (image attached). There seem to be three sealants on the cabin-window frame interface: a black sealant on the outer rim, a PU foam(!) lining and finally some white sealant. However when looking at Rutgerson official mounting instructions all I can see is some good'ol Sikaflex  applied to the bare stainless frame, no PU foam.

Does anybody know about this foam piece? Is it for ... trapping condensation or something? To catch condensation drops from falling in between the interior ply and the foam core? Simply a botched up job by a previous owner? My present plan is to simply remove all gasket remnants and simply go with a white Sikaflex per official instruction. Thanks!

We have a 33c 2006 originally fitted with a d1-30 as an upgraded choice when new. So that should go straight in as a swap.

Thanks for your help and explaining why it came to be that two different types of sealant were used.

Whilst it’s a sod of a job to replace it, it will be worth it in the end, I’m sure.

No, you can use the same everywhere. It's just that the deck is prefab, so the sealant used at the teak deck manufacturer's workshop was different (superior) to what Bavaria used when they glued it onto the boat.

Hi all

I understand Bavaria may have used different sealants for the cockpit teak when they made my B31 (2000), one type for caulking the  joints and a different type for around the perimeter.

Like many I am experiencing the perimeter sealant degrading and creating black marks when washed - nightmare.

I’ve bitten the bullet and started remove all the sealant and wondered if anyone can give me some advice on whether it is necessary to use two different sealants again when renewing.

I will probably go for the Sikaflex 290 DC but am concerned now that this may not be OK for the perimeter.

It's possible to add a sensing wire, or you could use a low-loss splitter.  Regardless, I still think you should get an electrical technician to sort out your problem.  With the best will in the world, well-meaning amateurs on here aren't going to solve your wiring issue.  I believe your 2030 engine has an earthing relay, so just connecting B- to the engine block (as you seem to say it was connected) won't work.

today I spoke with the man at the company that sold me the alternator.  It says the alternator is isolated.  And that it has the following connectors:
B+ positive pole to the battery
D+ to the indicator light that shows the alternator is charging. 
W to tachometer
B- to negative pole. 
He says there is no sensing wire!  I don't know if I will be able to use this alternator because it doesn't have a sensing wire and I use battery spliter.

I think you should get an electrical technician to connect it.
