Bavaria Yacht Help! / 38 Ocean CAD storage locations
« Last post by jeffatoms2 on November 04 2024, 18:33 »
Over this past weekend I did a deep dive into my 1998 38 Ocean and where everything is stored.  My wife had said she couldn't find anything and I think it was because I was too organized so I set out to draw her a hand visual guide to where everything lives on our boat.

Essentially, every unique location has a four letter code comprised of the primary location of every compartment on the boat, the secondary, vertical location of each compartment, the fore and aft orientation as well as the left-right orientation.

Enclosed is our boat's key to storage, along with the "key" and the above and below deck references needed to make it make sense.

Overkill?  Maybe but now she knows.  I can see adding schematics for such things as fire extinguishers and thru hulls separately.  This is all done in vector based CAD.

Feedback?

Even when it's working, the fuel gauge is very inaccurate, so I wouldn't worry too much.  You can estimate fuel usage from hours run.

Is there fuel in the tank?

I know it might sound a bit obvious, but I take it you've confirmed it's getting power..?

My 2013 Bavaria 33 has a Volvo d1-20. The fuel gauge stopped working with no reading showing. The gauge, sender and wiring loom have been replaced. Still no reading. Any suggestions as to what it might be please.

Bavaria Yacht Help! / Bavaria 40 Tek Tanks new holding tank
« Last post by MagicalArmchair on November 01 2024, 22:54 »
The big winter fit out jobs loom large, and as we want to visit Holland next year, at the top of that list is having at least one of the heads with a holding tank.

I figure a simple gravity assisted setup, with a deck pump out and diverter valve should do the trick, something like the Gravity Discharge with Charcoal Vent and Diverter Valve in the below.

https://www.tek-tanks.com/sanitation-systems/holding-tank-plumbing-and-layouts/

I made a mock up of the 60 litre tank in the bat cave and it’s pretty huge. Has anyone got any photos of where they managed to stash theirs? I thought one of the cupboards in the heads might do, but for one I’d like the keep the stowage and for two I just don’t think there is enough space. How about mounted on the bulkhead behind and above the heads?

Can the pump out fitting be in the topsides rather than the deck? The fewer things to stub my toes on the better!

As ever thanks for your help.

Bavaria Yacht Help! / Re: List to starboard

We have (2) 8D AGM batteries and a group 24 AGM on the Starboard side.  The port side has a couple of lead blocks for compensation, although I don't know their actual weight.  Obviously, not ideal to be adding non-essential weight to the boat but it keeps us on an "even keel." We bought the boat used and it was this way at the time.  I don't know if this is usual, but it makes sense not to be running parallel battery cables from both sides of the boat just to create balance in that manner.

Anyway, you could consider 'dead' weight such as this.

Move your beer to the port side

😂 I think no boat is perfectly balanced and always will list a bit. Especially with wide hulls like the Bavaria’s, it will give a lot of space but very sensitive to weight distribution. Water and fuel are most of the times balanced in quantities, as you mention batteries are making the difference… you need to put them somewhere…

I can recommend getting the Haynes manual for the Perkins Prima (which is what the MD22 is, with some minor modifications around the heat exchanger):

Helped me a lot with this sort of job. It has all the right size drill bits that you can use instead of the Volvo special locking tools :)
