Title: Bavaria Ocean 38 Main halyard slipping
Post by: 1simon on June 13 2023, 07:41
HI  All,

Has anyone ecperienced main halyard slippinng?
The halyard passes though a mast mounted clutch and then is cleated.  if it is not cleated it slips a few inches.
The problem is that when tensioning down via the winch and then need to cleat it off, i cannot hold it from slipping a bit and then cleat it.

Any ideas apart from changing the clutch?

Thanks

Simon

Check the teeth on the clutch cam, they can wear away or even break off. Make sure the clutch is actually putting enough pressure on the rope (might have a broken axle) and inspect the rope for chafe. Halyards especially tend to wear thin as they always sit in the same spot on the clutch. You can flip them around then, or go the extreme and replace the halyard.
