Title: length of Spinnaker Sheet
Post by: Michtsui on September 27 2022, 06:54
Hi all,

My boat is a bavaria C42 with asymetric spinnaker set up (120 meter square area with fixed bowspirt).

The length of my current spinnaker sheet (each side) is 28 meters - my question is what is the typical length of the spinnaker sheets? any magic ratio? I felt the current length is quite long, when playing the ball, a lot of lazy left on board.

I believe a typical rule-of-thumb is 2 x LOA for asym spi sheets, especially if you are gyping the kite outside, i.e. the tack goes outside of the kite, not between kite and forestay.

I believe Tommi is about right, 2 x LOA  & would add that all our cruising gybes of an assymetric are made around the outside of the forestay- ie backing off the sheet allows the sail to free fly ahead of the boat before sheeting in on the other gybe.  Significant alterations of course assist.
