Title: Water damage head door
Post by: ejessen on April 19 2020, 22:15
The bottom 4 inches on my head door is showing signs of water damage. We take our showers in there which I am sure is the root problem.  See attached image.

I was thinking of adding a stainless steel kick plate on the both sides of the door with screws and epoxy. Might not look 100%, but would defer a door replacement for a few more year.

Anyone done something similar? Or is there a better way?

A PO fixed this on our boat by adding a wooden profile with a drip lip to the bottom of the door. He even chose a matching sapele wood, but sadly left it untreated! I've since cleaned it up, rounded it over a bit and varnished it. Looks like it was meant to be there now.

Ultimately we protect the door with a shower curtain though (and with showering on the transom in summer).

Can snap a picture of the drip profile if needed.

The doors are vulnerable so I fitted a shower curtain that runs along that bulkhead, door always dry now, also fitted a proper shower station.
