Title: Thinking about a Bavaria 50...
Post by: xara773 on April 03 2018, 23:35
Hi everyone!
I currently have a 34, and I’m very pleased with it.
But the family grows and we are 6, and came across a 2001 Bavaria 50.
Does anyone have some thoughts about this model?
Thanks. best regards

No first hand experience on Bavaria 50, but we (5) fit nicely and enjoy sailing our Bavaria 40 of the same vintage.

Have you sailed a boat that big before? We moved up from 31ft to 40ft and after two seasons with Bavaria 40 I would not yet like to try to navigate a Bavaria-50 in crowded marinas. Many Bavaria 42s exist with three double cabins plus one twin bunk berth cabin.

We have a Bavaria 50, love the size and layout - 4 cabin. They can be a handful in a tight marina but manageable as long as you have a bowthruster. I reverse ours into our pen, basically don’t use the rudder, just steer with the thruster.. no problems.

I have a 49 and find it a comfortable sized boat. We don't have a bow thruster and never really had any problems parking.
