Title: Diesel smell
Post by: marioxp on November 17 2022, 21:20
Recently my webasto filter was leaking, diesel was leaking into the bilge in the salon. I cleaned the diesel with dish detergent but the smell of diesel remained, which crept into everything!

How can I get rid of this smell?

That has happened to us too - what worked well was called  "odor remover gel". We put that in the bilge for 2 weeks. Cheaper then that was some coffee powder.

Pour a bottle of neat bilgex onto where the leak was and let it flow through as the diesel did.

We've always taken the view that since the engine is always enclosed within the hull and not, for example, under the bonnet of a car where it's totally isolated from the passenger accommodation that a dieselly pong within a yacht was just a fact of life...    :(

Thank you very much for suggestions.

Unfortunately bilgex is hardy procurable which is british product and cost of shipment and duty are high, same as odur remover gels which are mostly US products and shipment on amazon is many times higher than a cost of product.

I find yachticon wonder bilge as alternative I hope it will do job effectively.
