Title: Seldon Gennaker Pole with ParaSailor?
Post by: true_kiwi on March 24 2022, 19:18
Hi All,
Hoping anyone out there has the same setup.
I have a Bavaria Vision 46 with the retractable carbon gennaker pole and am thinking of getting a Parasailor for it.
After much research I cannot see anywhere if the pole can take the vertical loadings without it with snapping off or ripping the mounting ring out of the deck.
As it is retractable, fitting a bob-stay or whisker stays to offset vertical forces is not practical.
Anyone out there with any experience with this.?
Lemme know and thanks!
Pete.

If your Seldon Pole fittings are fixed solely to the deck you’re likely to lift the deck at the deck/hull joint. Don’t ask how I know!

Yep. attached to the deck right here (see photo).
Sorry you had to learn the 'hard way'.
Is this pole mounting like yours?

Ours isn’t Seldon. We have a twin bow roller which we’ve modified to take a small sprit to fly a cruising chute.
Following strong winds we noticed the deck had lifted about 1cm. Solved by modifying the tang for the forestay which bolts to the hull.

Hi there - Have you got a photo/description of the mod?  Looking to try something similar on my 2006 B37.  Thank you!

Pete/True_Kiwi,
Fitted a bobstay and preventer from back of the sprit to the forestay to carry compression reaction of the bobstay. This preventer was set up to allow the sprit to be retracted when needed. The owner wanted to fly a code 0 and resulting luff forces would have destroyed the sprit.
Cheers

Hi
I own a 2012 V46
I was thinking of getting a bowsprit pole a few years ago.
I have the moulded in pads on the deck but when I enquired with Clipper Marine I was told that system is no longer supported.
The preferred system now uses a sprit anchored using the forestay tangs.

I did the arc last year on a boat with a seldon bow sprit and it failed dramatically

I bit the bullet and a fitted proper spinnaker pole and gear - so worth the cost especially if you're thinking of a parasail
