I want to get a whisker pole for a Bavaria 30 cruiser but its in Spain and i dont have the dimensions. Can anyone tell what length i need / any suggestions. Not looking for anything too expensive.

Have a look on the Selden rigging website. They have dimensions for most spars. Another place to try is Boat Data, and make the pole the same dimension as the "J" dimension for the Bavaria 30 Cruiser.

The adjustable whisker poles are very versatile, but also tend to be pricey. They're easier to stow because they can be shortened when needed. If you have a jib larger than 100% of your J measurement, then you'll need a longer pole than just the J length. The length of the pole is directly proportional to the J measurement of the jib/genoa. Selden makes a nice 10-18' line adjustable pole that might work just great for you if your J measurement is close to 10'. I've searched an can't seem to locate that measurement for your boat.

We owned a B30 Cruiser before the B40 Cruiser. I actually made up a whisker pole for her, but cannot find the pole measurements I used.
Failing being able to find the "J" measurement, it can be measured on the boat. The "J" measurement is the distance from the mast forward and horizontal to the furthers point of the vessel. Often this is the anchor roller or the front of the pulpit. If you make the pole longer as Jake suggests using the "J" measurement of the jib, the pole is just that bit longer and harder to stow.

Two pole ends light weight the Ronstan 46 mm (PNP166) is suitable, a length of 50 mm or 63 mm 3 mm wall thickness aluminum tube. for the topping lift and pole down haul, use a pair of saddles on each end of the pole. Loop the ends of the topping lift and downhaul bridles through the saddles. The downhaul in particular must be attached via a bridle as pulling down in the center of the pole will certainly bend it!
