Title: portlights B39Cr 2005
Post by: mowa on September 21 2021, 12:07
I have some water ingress in the fixed upper deck portlights, where the arrow signals. This is the place where the water remains more time. Surelly it is the rubber joint that is beginning to deteriorate. It is easy to change? Where to find this part? I am not sure that it is from Lewmar.

ok, many thanks, so you disassembled the portlights unscrewing the hexagonal bolts, cleaned the old sealant an installed the new butyl tape. Correct?

Yes and at the joints of the alloy frame I filled some Sika in.

One last question. Which butyl tape size did you use?

I'm not really sure, but I think it was the round type of 5 or 6mm . Two lines in parallel.

Might I ask, do you still have the butyl tape packaging or know the brand name?

I ordered the butyl from " www.fugendichtband24.de". It was the 5mm "Rundschnur"

Butyl tape is butyl tape, the differences are minor (some is more goopy though). The size doesn't matter so much either as it's very malleable - you can stretch it thinner or stick two strips together to make it thicker.
