A few days back I have met a Bavaria yacht sporting a large rigid wind screen.
I have never seen anything similar on a Bavaria, but after all I did like it.
Picture is attached.

More than likely, a custom made set up. At least that's what we find in North America with those hardtops.
BTW - I have a '99 35E.

The only Bavarias that came with rigid glass windscreens from the factory are the Ocean series of the early 2000s. Those are Ertec screens, identical to the ones Hallberg-Rassy fitted at the time (spare parts are conveniently interchangeable). We have one and find the key advantage is that you can actually see clearly through glass, unlike the clear vinyl materials of sprayhoods. We have a canvas sprayhood on top of the windscreen, extending it, and find that a good combination. You can drop the canvas for ventilation and decreased windage (the glass windscreen front window also opens).
The one on your photo one is an obvious custom job, and a bit of an ugly one if you ask me. Might be convenient if you're sailing in a lot of very wet weather, but the windage is frightening and that guy can't even look at this sails from anywhere in the cockpit.
Here's a 40 Ocean similar to ours, with the original glass windscreen plus a sprayhood on top of it:

I really like these hardtops. Are they available for purchase?

Hi, beyond Ertec Danmark, which are suppliers to HR, mentioned early by Yngmar the few others I know are www.pompanettellc.com and www.taylormarine.com in US, Rhigo in Holland. www.rhigo.com. and www.nauticaf4.it in Italy.
But I am sure there are many others around.
Cheers

They'd be custom jobs for each boat model, so best to do yourself or if you don't feel able, hire a trusted boatyard to do the job. The difficult part is making them not look so ugly :-\

Thanks :tbu

Hi all, here is a picture of the solution on my boat that the former owner built.
We like it a lot.

Here's a photo set of Bomika (https://www.flickr.com/photos/sy_bomika/sets/72157624649969959/), another 40 Ocean. They have a few photos of the various stages of building their hard dodger, so you can get an idea of how to approach this. Personally I find the dodger quite repugnant - the cat scratch posts are cool though! :)

Supamegafugly IMHO ;)
