Title: Fuel Tank Removal

Hi There

Has anyone removed there fuel tank! I know they are fibre-glassed in but is that just at the ends and will it grind off?
I see a company (Link Below) who custom makes fuel tanks for bavaria so was thinking if I sent the tank to them and get one made with proper access hatches.

They are very good and have made both water and holding tanks for me (not for a Bavaria). Quite a big job getting the old tank out as i think you will also have to remove some woodwork as well as grinding away the GRP holding the tank in. Then you will need to devise a way of holding the new tank in. One good thing about the plastic tanks is that you can get mounting lugs attached wherever you want them or blocks to hold straps in place. Tek Tanks are very good at advising on such things as all tanks are custom built.

Any reason for not just cutting an access hatch in the old one ?  I am pretty sure there are appropriate off the shelf hatches ..just googled one

I reckon I'd have to be fairly desperate to try to remove a tank. I'd certainly try ever other option first! They almost build the boat around the tank - major surgery will be involved in removing it.

This may be a silly question but why do you need access hatches in a fuel tank?

Just thought it would make it easier to clean out the tank if you ever get sludge in it (the Bug)

Thanks Mike.

There is another thread on here about tank cleaning. Consensus was "don't bother" getting in the tank to clean it, more easy to clean the fuel via filters etc ... might be worthwhile looking that up. It might save you some work.
