Hello Mates,

I'm preparing for complete recaulking of my teak cockpit with TDS SIS440.

Any experience based advise on how to do seam at the edge, between last teak plank and gelcoat (as shown on attached picture)?

I understand how to deal with seams between planks, but this one on edge is a bit tricky for me since is would not be possible to sand it.
Should I use finger or special putty knife (for bathroom silicone) to form the seam?
Can I remove SIS440  (when not cured) from gelcoat with acetone?

When the belt is on, if you get hold of it between the two top gears, you want to be able to twist it 45 degrees. That will be the right tension.

Hello All,

I'm going to change timing belt on my MD22L 2001 since I have no idea is it was ever changed... I've already bought the belt, idler and tensioner, and studied service manual for the procedure.

The problem is tensioning... Manual mentions the correct value for a new belt is 425-465 N and for a used belt 340-370 N. But this is with standard gauge I do not have and which is quite expensive https://www.ebay.com/itm/116043453574?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=V3l2CAKkSb2&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=fyGmBEiUSdW&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY)

There are much more cheap tools like this one https://www.ebay.com/itm/355281967981?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=ehsaeg2xrqo&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=fyGmBEiUSdW&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY, but for this tool you need to know belt deflection with specific force applied.

I spent several days searching for belt deflection for MD22/Perkins but was not able to find this info.

Does anyone know this? Or any other suggestion on timing belt tension apart from buying an expensive gauge?

Thank you in advance!

Glad you finally got it sorted!  Might be an idea to take a few pics of the correct wiring, for future reference.

I want to announce that the alternator has been redone.  Thank you all for your help and advice.  After many calls, the electrical techician came and solved the problem in 10 minutes.  The only thing is that I didn't connect the sensing wire, he calls it excitation, he disconnected a wire from the alternator and connected the sensing wire to it.  And that was all.

I am considering installing a getset as well.  I am looking at putting it into the port side lazarette in the cockpit.  Looks like plenty of room in there.  5KW should fit in there easily, with plenty of room to service it as well.

I think the engine room would be a bit small for a genset.  If someone has done it, I'd love to see pictures.

Hello,

I removed the starboard cabin portlight on my Bav 47 because the polycarbonate sheet was loose in its frame (eg = leaking). That is an easy fix. However I'm curious over what I discovered on the stainless sealing surface of the window (image attached). There seem to be three sealants on the cabin-window frame interface: a black sealant on the outer rim, a PU foam(!) lining and finally some white sealant. However when looking at Rutgerson official mounting instructions all I can see is some good'ol Sikaflex  applied to the bare stainless frame, no PU foam.

Does anybody know about this foam piece? Is it for ... trapping condensation or something? To catch condensation drops from falling in between the interior ply and the foam core? Simply a botched up job by a previous owner? My present plan is to simply remove all gasket remnants and simply go with a white Sikaflex per official instruction. Thanks!

We have a 33c 2006 originally fitted with a d1-30 as an upgraded choice when new. So that should go straight in as a swap.

Thanks for your help and explaining why it came to be that two different types of sealant were used.

Whilst it’s a sod of a job to replace it, it will be worth it in the end, I’m sure.

No, you can use the same everywhere. It's just that the deck is prefab, so the sealant used at the teak deck manufacturer's workshop was different (superior) to what Bavaria used when they glued it onto the boat.
