Title: Raymarine Pathfinder radar cable join
Post by: blue-max on June 18 2022, 10:20
I have a Raymarine Pathfinder radar installed. The cable has been cut & joined  under the mast.(inside the boat within the headlining void) I think this is the cause for my radar not working -  a common problem apparently. I tried soldering the wires but this has not solved the problem. I have been told its an issue concerning video  transmission. Anyone solved this - Raymarine do  not make a special plug and socket but perhaps someone else does.

I think they're all cut, as they need to be so the mast can be un-stepped. Silicone grease is your friend with preventing corrosion (as it prevents moisture touching the raw copper). I dipped the wires into grease, then crimped boot-lace ferrules on all the wires and joined them in a small size choc-block which was also squeeze full of grease. Zero issues in the uhm, 6 years since.

ok - then I will try again. It is possible there is a fault where the cables enters the radome but that's not so easy to check.
