Title: D2-55 air filter replacement
Post by: mowa on May 22 2020, 17:53
Someone has tried an alternative to the superspensive foam Volvo original air filter? I only found this
https://www.parts4engines.com/volvo-penta-d2-55-air-filter/
Is it ok?

Hi. I have a D2-55 on my 2005 39C. I replaced the air filter with a K & N cone type (similar to the one offered by Parts-4 Engines) about 8 years ago and it worked fine. You probably will never have to replace it ever again. Incidentally, I purchased engine parts from Parts-4 Engines in the past and was happy with what they supplied, and at a fraction of the price of VP original parts!
Regards,
Raph.

The air filter on a yacht engine is really rather redundant as the engine operates in a very clean atmosphere compared with the normal habitat for these engines which is small tractors and industrial machinery. Its main purpose is to reduce air intake noise so is unlikely to ever need replacing unless the element has physically degraded. In this respect the one you are looking at is better than the Volvo foam one.
