Title: Cockpit speakers - anyone?
Post by: sy_Anniina on May 27 2019, 13:16
Has anyone installed cockpit speakers and found a good location for them. The boat is Bavaria 40 2001, similar cockpit layout in most models around that era.

For about all the locations I can imagine, I think I would have the speakers subject to kicking
- Steering pedestal sides are useful as foot support when sitting on heeled benches
- cockpit sides (between seat & floor) are subject to kicking as well
- installing too near to compass may bring risks...

Suggestions - anyone?

How about under the seats at the rear of the cockpit, facing forwards?

My speakers are located exactly where tiger79 suggested (on a B36 2000), I believe since the boat was new and I have found it to be a great location with no damage suffered.

Thanks,

Have to evaluate that position and our usage patterns...

Another position for a single speaker (VHF outdoor speaker) that popped in my mind based on your inspiration: Forward end of the pedestal covered and protected by the folding cockpit table - close enough, low - far enough from compass, no kicking risk.

On our B32 2004 we have a pair of Fusion speakers. They are located facing inwards (so facing towards each other), on the almost vertical area above the seat and directly in alignment of the aft winches. They were installed by a previous owner. Never had a leak problem and it’s an area that is quite protected due to its proximity to the wheel and never been a kick issue.
In the attachment one of the speakers can be seen at the bottom of the photo.
