Title: D1-20 coolant draining

Time for a coolant change on a D1-20 Bavaria 30. The drain on the heat exchanger is as expected - a little black plastic spigot that you pop a hose on and turn to drain the coolant. But the manual says also do the same on the starboard side of the block to drain that - but this is just a square headed plug not a drain cock as per the manual. This is lower than the drain on the heat exchanger so i ned to do this to get all the old coolant out. Does anyone else have a plug rather than a proper drain cock and has anyone retro-fitted a drain, seems they are around £10 but the sting is that you need an adapter which is another £90. If it's accessible you can just remove the plug and drain it that way. It'll all land in the bilge but shouldn't be too messy to mop up....On replacement you could put a little thread sealant on the plug to prevent any future leakage....Bill.

Spooky!  I've literally just come on here to post exactly the same question.

Had a look at the weekend but didn't seem obvious so thanks for reassurance.  Mines just a plug like in your photo.  Looks like it's going to go everywhere...

There is not a lot of volume in the lower part and it is unlikely to rush out because usually there is a build up of deposits behind the plug. One of the reasons why a drain tap is not used because they bung up and are pigs to clear.
