Full length battens in furling main

I have a self furling main with vertical battens.
The battens come in 2 pieces... a shorter bottom section, then a larger fibreglass batten that sits on top of shorter piece.
Even when sitting on top of lower section, the battens do not reach the full length to leach (they fall about 1 m to 1.5 m short... even though the sleeve or pocket goes all the way to top.
Questions
Are the vertical battens supposed to go right to the top?
Why are they in 2 pieces, instead of one continuous batten?
Could I replace with one long batten that goes all the way to top

John, I have a furling main on my 2012 Bav 36. My batterns go the whole length and are single lengths except the end fittings which are adjustable for fine adjustments.  My sails are Elvstrom, if yours are the same suggest you speak to them at Hamble.

Same her full battens All the way to the top.
You mention the short batten piece (carbon) on the bottom, at my boat they are mounted the other way around as i understand they are to keep the top of the sail in shape hence stiffer material (carbon) then the long parts of glassfiber.
