Bavaria 40 (2001) vs Bavaria 39 cruiser (2006)
« on: January 19 2015, 13:48 »
Hi at all, i'm a newbie of this forum. I would to buy a Bavaria and in this moment i have to choose between the two boats in the subject (quite the same price).
Consider that both are in very well condition (like new) and with quite the same equipment.
Which is the best choice ?
Which are the differences between the two boats ?

Please help me, i'm really in trouble for the choice.
Thanks

If the specs and condition are similar, go for the newer boat.

Is it true ?

I don't think you'll find significant differences in build quality.

We've had a B39 2006 since 2009 and are delighted with her. Sailed slowly from UK to Greece, incl a winter aboard, with very few problems.
Can't comment on the B40.

My 2001 B40 Ocean 2 cabin version is excellent. Good speed and sturdy hull, 2 toilets, huge aft locker.... and for sale in Australia!

We sailed from the UK May 2013, and over 3,500 Nm later have only had some small minor problems. Our 2007 39 cruiser has been a pleasure to sail and has had ample room ( 3 cabin, 2 heads version ) for the two of us to live a very comfortable life aboard, hope it continues this way over the next 8 yrs :) We think maybe the 40 would have given us the same experience, but slightly higher mooring costs !

Which ever model you go for, they really are a fantastic well designed all round solid yacht ( force 11 Biscay crossing, keel still attached :) ). We saw many other branded yachts on our travels who had not fared as well ! and met quite a few sailors who were turning back to the UK due to their choice of craft !

Would definitely go for which ever one had the bigger engine as our yacht has the uprated 55 hp engine, and when the weather is not to your advantage or to just give an extra push when you need it. Makes a massive difference on long hauls.

We live permanently aboard and currently in the Dodecanese Islands, cruising Turkey/Cyprus/Egypt this year.

As a general consensus, do we think the older one were better made than the new one, not just an opportunity to slate the interiors please, more thinking of general boat strength etc, the sales literature all says that they are built stronger but wonder what he owners think, we have a 2013 37 cruiser and think it is quite well built and have been out in a few blows but my 2007 30 always seemed to keep us safe.
Sorry to digress from original post

Thanks at all for the answers. At the end i proceeded with the B39 Cruiser because it is better equipped (volvo D2 55 EBD) and it has a lot of optionals included like the tanks for waste water. Moreover the age difference i think is important, if i'll decide to sell the boat after some years, the new one will have a bigger value for sure.

Thanks

I would have bought the same boat as you did. Congrats for your new boat.
