Pump out fitting for Bav38 Ocean Centre Cockpit
« on: November 27 2014, 13:04 »
Hi all,

I have a holding tank in the aft end of the engine room, situated beneath the cockpit.
We're hoping to go to the Baltic for next season and realistically will need to be able to pump out this tank.
Has anyone had fitted or retro fitted a pump out fitting in similar circumstances.

My initial thoughts are this would need to be on the floor of the cockpit aft of the binnacle. This would allow a vertical access to facilitate "Rodding" in the event of a blockage.

This location isn't ideal but I think my options are limited

Thoughts and experiences please.

Thanks

Adam

Hi. Adam,

What year was your boat built?

The reason I ask is that on our Bavaria 38 CC Ocean 2000 the holding tank is attached to the engine room wall next to the head.

Seems odd that Bavaria would have moved the tank aft of the binnacle - perhaps it was done later as a refit?

Hi Kaptajnen,

My boat was built in 1997. I've attached a picture showing the green holding tank. I think it was retro fitted.

Adam,

Yes, your photo shows that the holding tank is a retrofit. Compared to the original Bavaria holding tank installation, it does not give you any room to install a macerator pump and related hoses. The obvious problem is that you may end up with an even worse problem of creating a leaky install and a smelly mess.

I am enclosing a photo taken when we replaced the sail drive. On the left side you can see the hose coming down from the holding tank ( located on the wall - some 3 feet up with plenty of room below). The white macerator pump (retrofit) is on the bottom of the engine room. Unfortunately the photo does not show the hose from the macerator out.

Perhaps you could re-locate the tank to the original factory location?

Hi Claus,

Could you send me a picture of where the holding tank is fitted in yours please.

As always it's probably going to be a lot more work than I thought.

Regards

Adam
