Volvo 3 blade folding prop

Hi All. Anyone know how long the MGDUFF  zinc anode lasts, and does it fit as a straight replacement for the Volvo anode? Force 4 sell them 30% cheaper than buying  volvo anode from Volvo dealerships.  Ive been told also it helps to paint the fitting screws with antifoul just around the back the screw head.

If you are talking about the 3 piece anode, they tend to last about 6 months I've found.

Yep sorry I forgot to mention its the three section type. Really interested in the difference between the two makes, and has anyone fitted the Mc Duff?

It helps with the life of these anodes if you paint around the bolt hole not insulating them, as the holes area weakens and centrifugal force throws the anodes off before they have worn out.
Mines last 2 seasons with this method

Maybe you can explain it to me again?
At first I am not a native english speaker
At second I did not exactly understand where to paint.
Do I have to paint at the prop in the nut where the anodes are sitting?
The hole nut or only the bottom ore also the side? Only the holes of the anodes have to be free for electrical contact?
Or do I have to paint on the anodes? If yes where?

I have the same Problem, I might have lose the anode complete, there was no rest left.

Around the hole is the weakest part of the anode so to stop the erosion at this point you paint it about 8mm all around the hole but make sure you do no insulate it completely as it will not work at all then. Leave the chamfered part clear  of paint for the bolt to make contact with the prop.

ok, I will try it.
I will paint the lower section, where the anodes come in for 8mm each side of the hole. hope it is right. I will see next year....

Do you mean the hull-mounted pear-shaped ones? I fitted one in February and will be hauling out in a month or so. If you can wait that long then I'll let you know.

I ment the mcduff 3 piece volvo folding prop anodes, fitted now will update in June when yacht comes out mid season scrub.

Why should they be any different to the VP ones (except cheaper). I would assume they are made of the same stuff? (zinc).

How long they last usually depends on a number of environmental factors - whether your engine is properly isolated from stray currents and whether your neighbours pay proper attention to electrical isolation. One yacht in our marina next to a large power yacht has its anodes eroded every six to nine months, whereas a similar yacht, three pens away, changes them every couple of years.

I now get 2 years out of the larger collar anode and change the three thin anodes (the ones you are talking about), once a year although I could probably get longer. A few years ago, they were eroding much faster until I took to isolating the engine completely ever time I leave the boat. It made quite a difference! (I have a VP D1-20)
