Bavaria Cabin Light Fixture Question

Our Bavaria 38 Ocean 2000 came with the Cabin Light fixtures shown in the below attachment. I think they were made by an Italian manufacturer - but I am not sure.

Wer need to replace one fixture damaged by corrosion - does anyone know where we can obtain a replacement to match???

Thank you - that is the fixture.
It is sold by SVB in Bremen at a very good price - unfortunately
 shipping to the US costs more than the fixture :(

No, the pricey DHL service is evidently the lowest cost option available from SVB.

I have asked them if they have any dealers in North America - but have not had a reply yet...

I think
Shipping cost is almost same.
One fixture or 10 pcs.
SVB have good selection of boat articles.
Try to find something else to the same shipment.

And all prices there www.svb.de are including German VAT. (19%)

Shipping to out side of EU.
Should be possible to process without VAT.

I had the same Italian light fittings; found any corrosion came off with a serious polishing, but their worst feature are the weak rocker switches which break easily over time. I have found replacing them entirely with led arrays gives me much more light at a fraction of the electricity consumption.

Anthony, when you say LED arrays do you mean the whole fitting or just the bulb - if it's the whole fitting where did you get them and are they are size match for the Bavaria ones?

I've used a simple LED array which consisted of a small disc with a multitude of LED bulbs mounted into the disc. My experience has been that those with a 1 watt output are not really bright enough, two watts is much better. They are sourced through ebay and posted from HongKong. Also the ones with lots of LED bulbs have been less reliable so far than those with fewer LEDs. Quality, well I guess you get what you pay for, but so far not much to choose between the cheapo lights and those that were twice the price.

The arrays are a complete light fitting with switch. Purchased at Whitworths, a marine chandlery chain store in Australia. Approx dimensions are 6"x4" and fairly thin having an array of multiple leds and providing light like daylight. I previously purchased led discs to fit the lamp like yours from a US firm online www.superbrightleds.com; they were excellent for brightness but my switches were the problem. Incidentally I have used a different array light over the chart table; this is similar to the aforementioned but also has a built-in array of red leds for reduced light when night navigating; so the switching is simply white-red-off.

I replaced my halogen bulbs for cheap Chinese led discs, saved huge amounts of power but brightness wasn't up to much, had to put halogen back in a couple. I then tried a different batch which were better and also left off the glass covers. When the wife got on board she decided they weren't bright enough even with a halogen bulb!!! Problem solved by linking an LED strip of lights across the ceiling between the 2 spots. I think they are the 36 LED per metre strip.

Hi - very dumb question - how does one remove these fixtures?  I pulled the bulb and see a hole in the middle of the fixture is there some type of screw in there?

Prise out the part that looks like a large washer around the central swivelling part of the light fitting, it's just held in with some springy fittings. Once that bit is out the internal screws will be seen and when removed will allow the conical shape part to be removed.

I would really love to find replacement rocker switches for these. They break easily. Nigel used to sell them but I have no idea where he was getting them from...

If you go to Maplin in the UK or Radio Shack in USA, they have a selection of rocker switches costing peanuts. I chose one that looked nearest to the size needed, bought some to replace the original and they were almost an exact fit. I just needed to open up the hole where the switch fits ever so slightly using a round file, push in the new switch and crimp on the appropriate spade connectors, job done.
