Injector nozzles VP TMD22p-c
« on: January 03 2025, 16:08 »
Thinking to overhaul  my injector nozzles on my VP TMD22P-C  but will need to  identify the part number after dismantling  which  is a little awkward as the boat is in Turkey. There are 4 different sets listed on the parts for engines webpage  so  hoping to  get some guidance about which  set to  buy. I have engine serial number.

Any VP spare part centre can provide you with the right parts for your engine upon your serial number..

What symptoms are you getting , my non turbo md22 is 25 years old now . It still starts 1st kick ,hot or cold . It smokes a bit but then it always did. I keep thinking that I should service the injectors , but then why? Geoff

There are 2 types of injector; single stage, and two stage. Which type do you have (they look different, and have different nozzles).

reason for enquiry , engine smokes a lot under heavy  load , fuel consumption is about 5 lt per hour at 2500 rpm. I have serial number  but not sure its enough - want to  buy from parts for engines

Hi blue-max, “engine smokes a lot” is quite subjective and hard to tackle.
First question is always, “what kind of color is the smoke?”, especially under high loads. blue/ white smoke would indicate potential wear of piston rings and should be noticeable in oil consumption, real white smoke is steam from the exhaust, grey/ black is combustion (turbo, airsupply, poor nozzles) or overload (boat reached max hull speed and does not plane, too big propeller fitted, poor hull cleanliness) Does the engine smoke more than previously, because Volvo’s just tend to smoke more than other engines. FYR: On our previous Bavaria (VP 2002 engine) I had the injectors also removed and tested at 2500 hrs, they still cracked (opening pressure and spray pattern) like new. You dont need to replace them, just take them to a diesel engine workshop who can do the testing for you.

With regard to fuel consumption, look at the consumption curve of the engine. I found it for you online. Your consumption at 2500 rpm is at the normal curve…. FYR, For our D2-55f running at 2500 rpm, 5 - 7 litres per hour is a common consumption and makes rediculous speed… :)
