Saildrive 130S oil change in water
« on: December 05 2024, 12:49 »
Hi,

I pumped out the oil from my SD 130S  through the oil extracting tube mounted on the starboard side of the SD using Pela Extractor. Strangely, I was able to push the Pela Extractor tube only to the point where the SD's tube connects to some sort of a nut at the level of the SD's membrane. On my previous boat I had a Yanmar SD, and I was able to push the extraction tube almost to the bottom of the SD through the oil filling port.

Nevertheless I started pumping the oil out, but managed to pump out only about 1.2 l of oil, although the indicator showed the correct oil level. According to the manual the amount of oil in the SD is 2.6 l and with this method about 0.5 l of oil should remain in the SD. Am I doing something wrong? Should I use thinner tube? The one that I used had a diameter about 1mm smaller than the diameter of the SD's extraction tube.

Regards

Hi Falko,

I have done the same, but did not stick the tube inside the extracting tube, but connected the suction of the oil pump to the tube with a piece of fuel hose. I managed to empty the full saildrive and refresh the oil in that way.

Worked like a charm. The tube with an inner diameter of 11mm fits snugly onto the extraction tube of the Sail Drive as well as on the Pela extractor input connection. Sucked all 2.6 l of old oil in a matter of minutes.  Thanks.

Hi
Is it possible to do this using the filler hole? Mine does not have the extra tube on the side.

On our previous Bavaria 300 with a VP 2002 engine, I used the filler hole. I stuck the smallest tube of the oil extractor as far as possible along the gear into the tail and extracted the oil in that way. Don’t know if that will work for you too, but it is worth a try. Just know how much oil you need to fill your saildrive and see how much you can get out..

Good luck!!
