Bavaria cupboard catches (2006)
« on: October 23 2013, 20:12 »
Hi, all.
Would WD40. be the best catches/latches for the cupboards? They tend to stick in the in position.
Fair winds,

I used some McLube Sailkote on mine, beacuase I had a can already.   Seems to work fine and is supposed to last longer - we'll see.

Sometimes it's just a matter of bending the fixed plate a bit to reduce the friction.  Test the button with the cupboard open. If it operates freely then adjust the plate.

The original WD-40 isn't the best lubricant for anything.

However, they now have a new range, and their Anti Friction Dry PTFE Lubricant is excellent.

That's very helpful, Nigel. I returned to Freebird after a month's absence to find three of the cupboards stubbornly refusing to open. I had to use antifreeze spray and 3-in-one oil to free them as an emergency measure (all I could find at 9pm!) and then cleaned and lubed them with a silicone lubricant. Totally agree about WD40 except for emergency freeing of stuff - so I'll try the PTFE product next time I'm up!
