B39C solar arch design. - models

(1/1)

marp:
Hi,
I plan to design solar arch for my Bav 39C, it will need to fit 2x400W-500W panels and dinghy davits, do You know if it is possible to get deck CAD somehow? It would make job much easier, or maybe someone done own designs already and have some cads available? (why invent wheel agan?)

fair winds,
marp

JEN-et-ROSS:
Can I ask?
Have you checked out the dimensions of a pair of 400/500w solar panels...??

marp:
Yes, they will fit, 1,8m x 1.2m each. together ~60kg.

JEN-et-ROSS:
While I'm not familiar with a 2007 B39..
I can't help but question the wisdom of mounting a 6ft by 8ft solar array and the required steelwork up on the stern of a 39ft yacht...
The 'arch' will be enormous and by necessity rather complex and bulky to prevent the panels being damaged in a blow...(or the boat damaged if the panels came adrift)

Bear in mind that if healed by 20/30+deg, the wind will get under the panels and it may cause control issues by weathercocking the boat to into wind...
We have a pair of 100W panels on the arch and even they shudder in a blow to the extent that they're now fitted with shock absorbing rubber mounts to protect them from the vibration and gusts..

I'd be interested if anyone else has mounted such a large array on an arch and how they achieved adequate structural support, because it's not just the 60kg that requires factoring in, it's the extreme loads that a storm will inevitably inflict on the structure ...?  ....Bill.

geoff:
Is the array suggested any bigger than a bimini?  Ok it will weigh rather more ,but smaller in area. Geoff
