Main sheet and kicker rope diameter
« on: July 01 2023, 18:35 »
I can't decide what size to go for on my Bavaria 30 cruiser mainsheet and kicker.

Braid on braid, 12mm and 10mm respectively or can I go down a size? 10mm/8mm?

Any recommendations please?

Bigger sheets are easier to handle.

Maximum size is written on the blocks and rope clutches. Minimum size on the rope clutches only. You don't want to go too thin or it'll be like trying to tear off a twine with bare hands  ;D

Load wise, 10 or even 8mm are probably fine even with polyester braid on braid.

If it comes back to a clutch and a winch then 8mm will be fine. 10mm is perhaps better if you are hauling it in only by hand.

10mm is a nice compromise. 12mm is a bit big, and 8mm will hurt your hands.
